The SwimRise STARFISH

1. Attendance

• Is the $265 fee for the full summer regardless of attendance, or is there a prorated option? — No proration, this is a flat fee for the whole summer regardless of attendance.
• Can swimmers still participate in meets if they miss some practice weeks? — Yes.
• Is there any minimum practice attendance requirement to stay on the team? — No requirement, but we recommend coming at least 2–3 times a week if possible.

2. Meets / Competition

• What days/times are meets? — All meets are posted on the website under Team Calendar.
• Are meets mandatory or optional? — Optional, but swimmers must attend at least one regular meet to participate in the Championship meet.
• Are there extra meet fees? — There is a one-time $18 fee for the meet app; otherwise, no additional meet fees.

3. Skill Level / Readiness

• How are swimmers grouped? — Groups are determined by ability rather than age, so coaches will place swimmers in lanes where they will both succeed and be challenged.
• Is this team beginner-friendly, or more competitive? — Very beginner-friendly — it's an intro to swim team and a fun learning experience.
• Will coaches help improve strokes/technique? — Yes, our coaches come from our competitive team, so they have the knowledge and experience to provide instruction and improvements at all levels.

4. Schedule Logistics

• Can my child attend fewer than 5 days per week? — Yes, come when you can.
• If we miss a week, can they return the following week? — Yes, that's fine.
• Are there make-up practices? — No make-ups; practices run on a 5-day schedule. Practices are occasionally cancelled due to storms, which is outside of our control.

5. Costs Beyond Registration

• Is $265 the total cost for the season? — Yes, with the exception of the $18 app fee noted below.
• Is the $18 Swimmingly fee the only extra cost? — Mostly yes. Additional costs to be aware of: campus parking fees apply before 5 PM Monday–Friday (practices are after 5 PM, so this would only apply for daytime meets); transportation to and from meets is the family's responsibility, though no meets are very far; and there is an end-of-season banquet for which parents may be asked to contribute toward organizing.

6. Safety / Supervision

• How many coaches and lifeguards supervise practice? — 1–2 lifeguards are always on deck provided by UNF, along with 2 dedicated coaches plus additional volunteer coaches in the water (number to be determined).
• What is the coach-to-swimmer ratio? — This will be determined once we evaluate all registered swimmers and assess overall attendance and ability levels.
• What is your weather/rain policy? — Practice is delayed 30 minutes any time there is a lightning strike within a 7-mile radius. Coaches and UNF staff may cancel practice at their discretion. We do our best to notify parents of delays and cancellations in advance, but conditions can change very quickly.
